The Audubon Society says climate change will destroy habitat for hundreds of bird species.
A new report from the group says dozens of species will lose more than half their range with no chance of relocating, while dozens more will be forced to shift northward.
The list includes beloved birds such as the common loon, which is expected to largely disappear from the lakes where Canadians have enjoyed their haunting cry for generations.
In all, the report says that 314 species of birds face threats to their habitat from climate change — nearly half the species in North America.
Scientists says that adds force to the argument that Canada should protect up to half of its boreal forest to create a refuge for birds looking for new habitat.
